Acoustic Contrast Control with L1 Con- Straint

چکیده
Optimal arrangement of loudspeakers in space is an important topic for the design of personal audio system with less number of loudspeakers. The acoustic contrast based on the ratio of acoustic energies(L2 norms) has been used for the maximization of sound pressure level difference between two different regions, but it only determines optimal driving functions of loudspeakers of which positions are fixed in advance. In this work, we aim at providing a means to determine the optimal loudspeaker locations by employing L1 constraint to the optimization problem. The solution of L2 optimization calculated for possible candidate loudspeaker locations is given as an initial guess, and the general sparse eigenvalue problem is solved through iterations. The sparsity of the solution shows that the determination of optimal loudspeaker is possible in theory.

Acoustic Analysis of Persian EFL Learners' Pronunciation of English Vowels
This paper reports the results of an experimental study on non-native production of English vowels. Two groups of Persian EFL learners varying in language proficiency were tested on their ability to produce the nine plain vowels of American English. Vowel production accuracy was assessed by means of acoustic measurements. Ladefoged and Maddison’s (1996) F1 F2 measurements for American English v...
متن کاملStudy of acoustic correlates of English lexical stress produced by native (L1) bengali speakers compared to native (L1) English speakers
English lexical stress is multidimensional in nature and acoustically related to combination of fundamental frequency (F0), duration, intensity and vowel quality. Errors in any or all of these correlates could interfere with perception of the stress contrast, but it is unknown which correlates are most difficult for Bengali speakers to acquire. This study compares the use of these correlates in...
متن کاملCan acoustic cues used in L1 really be used to perceive novel sound contrasts?
One issue in language acquisition is whether the acoustic cues used in the L1 can be used to perceive a different phonemic contrast in the L2. A previous study found that Japanese listeners can utilize their sensitivity to vowel duration in their L1 to identify the English coda voicing contrast when asked to classify each token as 'bit' or 'bid'. That is, they could use vowel duration in a way ...
متن کاملInvestigation of acoustic properties of silica coated gold nanoparticle as contrast agent for Ultrasonography
Interoduction: Ultrasound images have often low contrast due to small differences in acoustic impedance between different tissues. Air or gas microbubbles that surrounded by membrane are most of the contrast agents in ultrasound imaging. Problems such as instability in sound pressure and inability in penetrating from the blood vessel into body tissues limited the use of microbubbles into the in...
متن کاملDissociable Levels of Speech Processing in Second Language Perception
It is generally accepted that there are at least two levels of speech processing: a level that processes categorical (and possibly indexical) acoustic information, and a level that processes abstract information for phonemic/lexical contrasts. However, little is known about how these levels may interact to impede or facilitate the perception of non-native speech contrasts. Our study evaluates w...
